Management of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic has dissociated the institution from a ‘student’ convicted for online fraud.

The ‘student’, Olalekan Oladapo Ogunremi, was slammed with a six months jail term by Justice Patricia Atoku of Federal High Court, Ibadan Division.

The information which was contained in a series of tweets by the verified Twitter handle of Nigeria’s Anti Graft Agency, Economic Financial Crimes Commission (@officialefcc) and contained in reports on various media platforms drew the irk of students of the polytechnic who accused EFCC and media of sheer mischief.

A statement made available by MAPOLY Head of Public Relations Unit, Yemi Ajibola distanced the institution from the student, saying such name does not exist in the polytechnic’s records.

Ajibola added that the institution did not have HND programme in Mechanical Engineering.

According to the statement, “We wish to state unequivocally that the convict, Olalekan Oladapo Ogunremi, is not our student.

“We also want to place on record that we do not offer Mechanical Engineering in Higher National Diploma programme as allegedly claimed by the culprit”, Ajibola pointed.

The statement enjoined security and media houses to be wary of unverifiable claims made by accused persons during investigation before releasing same for public consumption.

The PRO noted the institution “do not condone any act of indiscipline and misconducts in whatever guise. Hence, the reason we celebrate dignity and academic excellence which are our hallmarks”.

Members of the general public were urged to discredit such maligning reports aimed at putting the hard-earned reputation MAPOLY in disrepute.
